National Awards

The American Scientific Glassblowers Society's National Awards are given to members of the ASGS.

General information:

Any member (except the president, president-elect, secretary, treasurer or executive secretary) may be nominated for either the the J. Allen Alexander Award or the Helmut E. Drechsel Award. The recipient of the Memorial Award must be a Junior member and must still be a Junior member at the time of the award presentation

The Awards Committee will process all the nomination forms and then the executive officers and the Board of Directors vote on who the best candidate is by the supporting information.

Memorial Scroll:

A deceased member can be nominated by their regional section to be added to the memorial scroll. This individual is recognized for lifetime contributions to the mission and advancement of the ASGS and the field of scientific glassblowing. More than one member can be recommended and added to the memorial scroll. The executive committee and Board of Directors can add the name(s) to the Memorial Scroll after approval.

Nomination guidelines:

Section meetings provide a great opportunity to nominate members in your section, or possibly in another section, who have contributed greatly to the national organization. Section directors must nominate candidates with at least ten supporting signatures of national members in good standing. Nominees must submit a biography and a list of contributions along with the completed nomination form. The form is available for your director to download off the Board of Directors members' only web area or can be obtained from the Awards Committee Chair. The three National awards have an annual February 15 deadline.
