A new program that falls under the guidance of the Education Committee is the Mentor Program. This is a benefit provided by the Education Committee which offers a Grant-in-aid (stipend) that allows members to interact with established glassblowers. This year's recipient was James Hodgson from Kansas State University. Jim spent two weeks this fall under the accomplished tutelage of Joseph Gregar at Argonne National Laboratory located outside of Chicago, Illinois. They covered many technical areas of scientific glassblowing and successfully completed many glassblowing exercises. Jim had just completed five years as a junior member in the ASGS and applied for this new program. Jim mentioned that he felt that this opportunity to study under Gregar for two weeks was a once in a lifetime opportunity and is very grateful for the experience. |
| To participate in this program, one must complete an application and send it to the Education Committee Chair. This program does not pay completely for the member's expenses and may not be offered annually. |
| Consistent with the mission statement of the ASGS, the goal of the Education Committee is to assure that all members can receive information regarding scientific glassblowing and the teaching of scientific glassblowing. The Committee also provides information to prospective members on how to learn and become scientific glassblowers. |

One exciting component of the Education Committee is the Mentor Program. The most recent recipient of the Mentor Program was Jim Hodgson. |
