ASGS EDUCATION COMMITTEE

Education Committee

The Education Committee is a standing committee of the American Scientific Glassblowers Society. The chair is appointed by the President and approved by its Board of Directors.

Consistent with the mission statement of the ASGS, the goal of the Education Committee is to assure that all members can receive information regarding scientific glassblowing and the teaching of scientific glassblowing. The Committee also provides information to prospective members on how to learn and become scientific glassblowers.

One exciting component of the Education Committee is the Mentor Program. The most recent recipient of the Mentor Program was Jim Hodgson.

Procedure for checking out books in the ASGS Lending Library

1)	ASGS member will contact the home office to request a book.

2)	Member will reference the title, author and year, and in the case of out of print books, the chapter or pages, (please refer to Lib.Bk.List.(DS) for this information, then select the specific book for the contents).

3)	The home office will verify that the requestor is a current member.

4)	The request will be forwarded to:> Matt DiBella , Coordinator - Learning Resources Center by email to: mdibella@salemcc.edu

5)	Joan will ship the book or copies of sections of "out of print books" to the member, informs the member that books are to be returned in 6 weeks and record the shipping expense.

6)	After using the material, member will return the books and pay for return shipping. Joan will submit a request for reimbursement of shipping expenses to the ASGS on a quarterly basis; October1, January1, April 1, and July1.

7)	The ASGS Education Committee Chair will monitor books that are lent out. After a period of six weeks if the videos are not returned, the member will be notified and instructed to return the videos. In the improbable event of long overdue material, the local section officers may be asked to facilitate the return.
