When you join the ASGS, you find yourself among men and women dedicated to improving themselves and their profession. Our many international members also share their experiences and expertise, and afford Americans and Canadians unique perspectives and approaches from all over the world. With the dawn of the internet, exchanges happen in minutes; new ideas, methods and resources are available on-line, and ASGS members are reaping the benefits.

Our profession is no more static than our medium: when things get hot, they move! As long as we keep moving, we maintain control of our endeavours. The ultimate goal of the ASGS is to provide the information necessary for our profession to maintain the highest level of excellence.

You will receive the Society's quarterly Journal FUSION.
  •  
As a member, you can attend our annual National Symposium at a discount, where you may attend seminars, workshops, paper presentations, meet with vendors, and discuss scientific glassblowing with peers from around the world.

A printing of the Proceedings soon follows each National Symposium. This is a collection of all papers presented at that symposium. members receive the Proceedings from each symposium for free.

Members also receive a Cumulative Index on paper that contains an index to almost 1500 articles found in the ASGS journal; FUSION and the annual Proceedings, (from the symposia).

Alternatively, members can elect to receive the Roster and the Cumulative Index on CD; this includes the complete index to the reference & Abstracts, a list of 5000 articles that are of interest to glassblowers.

Members receive an annual roster (in a paper or electronic version) providing ready access to other members.

Members with internet access are eligible to access the various electronic communication venues available via two separate e-mail lists to pose questions and get answers concerning scientific glassblowing and receive current news about workshops and meetings around the country. There is even an e-mail list for the general public.

Members can be listed in the Member Register, a section on the ASGS web site that allows a member to present themselves on the web.

Within the Members Only section of the ASGS web site, are various Health & Safety articles, Methods & Materials, past articles from FUSION and Proceedings, and important ASGS documents.

Members can choose to purchase, for a nominal charge, the ASGS Methods and Materials. An in-depth collection of articles on health and safety, glass chemistry and physics, vacuum, and many other topics.

The ASGS maintains a book and video lending library from which the membership may borrow. members have to pay only the shipping and insurance charge.
   
  •  
Members are allowed to use the ASGS Logo on business cards and on company stationary providing they follow the ASGS Logo guidelines.

In addition to national Membership there are 11 ASGS regional sections across North America. You can learn more about the regional section membership either by contacting the National Office or on the Regional Sections web page within the ASGS web site.
   
   
There are six member categories within the society. choose the category that best suits your situation and apply today.
   
1.

REGULAR membership may be granted to those persons who have worked in the field of scientific glassblowing for five consecutive years and currently gain the major portion of their income as a scientific glassblower. Cost is $75, American currency, per year.

   
2. ASSOCIATE membership may be granted to those persons who have a close relationship with, or an interest in the field of scientific glassblowing. Cost is $75, American currency, per year.
   
3. JUNIOR membership may be granted to those persons who actively engage in scientific glassblowing with less than five years experience. Upon completion of five years of experience, junior members must apply for Regular membership. Cost is $60, American currency, per year.
   
4. STUDENT MEMBERSHIP may be granted to those persons who are actively enrolled in an accredited Scientific Glassblowing curriculum such as the Salem Community College Program. Only two years of eligibility is allowed. Cost is $20, American currency, per year.
   
5. INTERNATIONAL membership may be granted to those persons residing in those areas not represented by The Board of Directors, outside of the continental United states and Canada. Cost is $85, American currency, per year.
   
6. RETIRED membership may be granted to those persons who are no longer able to perform glassblowing due to accident, illness or retirement and have been a Regular member in good standing for a period which is at least  the difference between the member's age and 70 years. For more information, contact your Section Director.
   
7. CORPORATE membership to those persons in corporations that meet the following criteria.
   
1. At the time of the submitted application, applicants must be full-time employees of the business entity and proof of incorporation may be requested by the ASGS Membership Committee.
   
2. Applicants are subject to classification according to standards set in the ASGS Bylaws and will be processed by the Membership Committee.
   
3. Subscribers are entitled to all rights and privileges according to their designated classification.
   
4. Applications require prepayment.
   
5. Each Corporate subscription entitles the Corporation to no more than three (3) prepaid subscriptions at a fee of $225.00. All additional applicants will have their membership fee reduced by 50%.
   
6. Applications rejected by the Membership Committee will be refunded.
