Outreach Committee

The ASGS recognizes the value of making the qualities of glass and the skills of scientific glassblowers known to the scientific community and the public at large. Toward this end, the Committee works to inform different disciplines, such as chemistry, vacuum technology and the semi-conductor industry through tradeshows, presentations, demonstrations, and community involvement. ASGS members realize a long term benefit by having demand for their services maintained and expanded. The Outreach Committee also works to keep ASGS members informed about the activities, benefits, and information in general about the ASGS. The Committee's biannual membership survey is one mechanism that the Committee has used to inform the ASGS members about the demographics of the Society. For example, many members have already used information about salary vs. years of experience to their advantage.

The Outreach Committee also works with the Membership Committee, sharing information, contacts and literature. Through this link, the Outreach Committee serves to help connect members to their sections and encourage involvement on both the local and national levels.

The Women's Outreach Program is a successful addition to the committee. Its purpose is to create an opportunity for women members to voice their concerns and address their needs.

As a young committee in the ASGS, we are still working to establish a core of venues and publications where we can expect a reasonable return on our outreach investment.
