ASGS Member Benefits

There are many benefits to becoming a member of the American Scientific Glassblowers Society, including;

As a member, you can attend our annual National Symposium at a discount, where you may attend seminars, workshops, paper presentations, meet with vendors, and discuss scientific glassblowing with peers from around the world. A printing of the Proceedings soon follows each National Symposium.

ASGS Proceedings is a collection of all papers presented at that symposium. Members receive the Proceedings from each symposium as a free benefit of being an ASGS member.

Members also receive a Cumulative Index on paper that contains an index to almost 1500 articles found in the ASGS journal Fusion and the annual Proceedings (from the symposia).

Alternatively, members can elect to receive the Roster and the Cumulative Index on CD; this includes the complete index to the References & Abstracts, a list of almost 5000 articles that are of interest to glassblowers. Members receive an annual roster (in a paper or electronic version) providing ready access to other members.

Members with Internet access are eligible to access the various electronic communication venues available via three separate mail lists to pose questions and get answers concerning scientific glassblowing and receive current news about workshops and meetings around the country. There is even a mail list for the general public.

Members can be listed in the Members Register, a section on the ASGS web site that allows a member to present themselves on the web. Within the Members Only section of the ASGS web site, are various Health & Safety articles, Methods & Materials, past articles from Fusion and Proceedings, and important ASGS documents. Members can choose to purchase, for a nominal charge, the ASGS Methods and Materials. An in-depth collection of articles on health and safety, glass chemistry and physics, vacuum, and many other topics.

The ASGS maintains a book and video lending library from which the membership may borrow. Members have to pay only the shipping and insurance charge.

Members are allowed to use the ASGS Logo on business cards and on company stationary providing they follow the ASGS Logo guidelines.

In addition to National Membership, there are 11 ASGS sections across North America. You can learn more about regional section membership either by contacting the National Office or on the "Regional Sections" page within the ASGS website.
