American Scientific Glassblowers Society Southwest Section Spring 2008 Meeting
|
The Southwest Section of the American Scientific Glassblowers Society invites you to participate in our annual Spring Gather of Glassblowers. This year, the Gather will take place in two locations in San Antonio, Texas. Our morning meeting and lunch will be held in the Alamo Meeting room at the Sleep Inn, Medical Center, 8318 I-10 West, (210) 344-5400. After lunch, we will be traveling to the shop of Bob Lewandowski. The locations of these meeting places are on the enclosed map.
| The program will start at 9:00 a.m. with registration and coffee at the Sleep Inn’s Alamo meeting room. The business meeting will begin at 10:00 a.m. After the meeting, our vendors/sponsors will give brief presentations, if desired, and you will have an opportunity to visit. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Lunch will be provided at noon, most likely catered by Jason’s Deli, but I will also be checking into different alternatives. Soft drinks will also be provided. There will be no charge for the lunch, as our attending vendors will sponsor the meal. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| gain this year, we are expecting the ASGS President, Bob Singer and President- Elect, Jack Korfhage to be in attendance! So, if you want to get the low down on what’s happening on the national level, you won’t want to miss this year’s Gather!!! | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Saturday evening, you are invited to carpool to a local restaurant to enjoy a meal with your fellow glassblowers. Each single/couple will be responsible for their tab. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| For those of you who were not at last years meeting, it was voted upon by those in attendance to begin collecting $15 in dues from our section members annually to help fund the ever increasing costs of conducting section business. In some previous years, our gracious sponsor’s donations have been sufficient to maintain an adequate balance. It was decided that dues should be collected to ensure the continued financial well being of the section. If you would like to voice your opinion concerning this issue, I recommend that you join us at this year’s Gather!!! | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| I have enclosed a list of hotels and restaurants, provided by Bob Lewandowski that is within approximately a couple of miles of his house. We decided not to book a block of rooms at the Sleep Inn, as there are both higher and lower priced hotels and motels in the immediate area. For those who are interested, the Sleep Inn rooms run about $79 per night. I would suggest making reservations at your earliest convenience, as I am unfamiliar with the events that may be going on in San Antonio during that weekend. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Enclosed with this announcement, you should find the following: | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Attendance Form, Section Membership Application and Return Envelope: Please fill out and return the enclosed Attendance Form (and Membership Application if not currently a member) in the stamped/addressed envelope to me or call or email your intentions to attend. This will really assist me in the planning of this year’s Gather!!! | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Meeting Area Map: This is a map showing the location of the Sleep Inn and Bob Lewandowski’s house. Driving directions from the airport are included. If you have any questions, please call Bob Lewandowski at 210-843-1032 or email him at ralco@satx.rr.com . | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Dues Statement and envelope: You will find a Dues Statement and a stamped/ addressed envelope for remitting your annual dues to our Treasurer, Bob Singer. We will be using the information provided and returned by you to update our membership list for future announcements and mailings!!! If you don’t want to be omitted from these announcements, be sure to remit your dues statement as soon as possible!!! Your membership is important to us!!! | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| I would like to encourage all of you who are able to attend this year’s Gather. I forgot to mention previously that there should also be a discussion during the meeting regarding the 2010 Symposium, which will be hosted by our section in San Antonio!!! It would be great to get as much input from our section members as possible for planning purposes! I hope to see you all at this year’s Gather!!!! | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

Sincerely, | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
