Dear ASGS Members & Non Members:

The site for the 2009 symposium is the Red Lion Hotel, Vancouver at the Quay, in Vancouver, Washington.  The Red Lion sits on the Columbia River and you can see the hotel from Interstate 5.  The hotel is only 15 minutes from the Portland International Airport and provides complimentary shuttle service.  The hotel is within walking distance of downtown Vancouver where there are various shops and restaurants.  A rental car is not needed unless you plan to visit other attractions.  The hotel offers free parking and has space for large RV’s, but not services.  The room rates are SPECTACULAR, $89.95 single queen, $99.95 double queen with up to FOUR guests per room!  This symposium is perfect for the family.  Another feature of this symposium is the concurrent running of the Portland Rose Festival (www.rosefestival.org) that will offer many venues for spouses and family members.  With only 160 rooms, the Red Lion Hotel will fill up fast, so EARLY reservations are recommended by calling 360-694-8341 (cut-off date is April 27, 2009).

The 2009 symposium is being hosted by your ASGS Board of Directors and all the sections.  It is truly a national symposium.  The mission of the ASGS is to promote, gather, and disseminate technical and scientific information concerning ALL aspects of scientific glassblowing.  The annual symposium is a unique forum to provide such information to its members and others interested in the field of scientific glassblowing.  I look forward to meeting you at the symposium in beautiful Vancouver, Washington.

Respectfully Yours,

Victor Mathews
2009 Symposium Chairman
