The 62nd Annual ASGS Symposium & Exposition
Omni Austin Hotel at Southpark, Austin, Texas
July 24 - 27, 2017
DEEP IN THE HEART OF TEXAS
Jack Korfhage and Bob Singer, on behalf of the 62nd Symposium Committee and the Board of Directors would like to invite you all to Austin, Texas. The Symposium will be held at the Omni Austin Hotel at Southpark (4140 Governor's Row, Austin, Texas, 78744) on July 24 to July 27, 2017. Reservations can be made online at: www.omnihotels.com/hotels/austin-southpark/meetings/american-scientific-glassblowers-society, or if you prefer, you can call 1-800-843-6664. If you call in reservations, be sure to mention the group reservation as the "ASGS" or "American Scientific Glassblowers Society." The Hotel has 313 guest rooms and the room rate is $133.00 per night for single or double; parking is free.
Austin is serviced by the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport to which the Omni offers complimentary shuttle service. Airlines serviced by the airport include Air Canada, Alaska Air, American Airlines, Branson Air express, British Air, Condor, Delta, Frontier Airlines, Jet Blue, Southwest and United Airlines. If you prefer to drive to and from the airport, the travel distance is approximately 6 miles.
The hotel is located a few miles from beautiful downtown Austin so the excitement of South Congress (SoCo) and 6th Street Entertainment District are all just moments away. If you love music, Austin is the place to be: there are music clubs everywhere and of corse there is the Austin City Limits venue with music shows most nights. If you plan on going there, check out their schedule: www.acl-live.com. There is something in Austin to capture everyone's interest, from botanical gardens to jazz to ethnic food (www.austintexas.org).
The main event though will be the Symposium itself. We are counting on support from the local glass community which includes the glass shop at the University of Texas, Austin, among others. Having said that, we depend mostly on the Society at large for volunteers. Please volunteer to do a Workshop, a Demonstration, to present a Technical Paper or Poster, or consider an Artistic Workshop. Each Section is encouraged to be part of the Symposium, so let your Director know how you would like to help out.
Save the dates and let us know what you would like to learn at your Symposium. Thank you for your participation. We look forward to learning and sharing together in Austin.
