Your symposium planning team has busy assembling an extraordinary symposium for 2024 to be held in the heart of our nation’s scientific glassblowing region.

Because you asked, we listened: this is not your traditional Symposium. We’ve worked hard to make your experience more interesting, more educational, and more enjoyable than ever before, while at the same time retaining some of the tried and true traditional portions which we all look forward to. Here are some of the new things offered this year.

  • Multiple Locations: Hooray! You’re not just stuck in a hotel for a week. Explore the SCC Glass Education Center, participate in behind the scenes tours of large modern scientific glass facilities in Vineland, see and learn about the historic glass industry in Vineland, and tour WheatonArts Village.
  • Repeat Seminars: Many seminars are offered twice. You’re less likely to be forced to pick between two you are interested in. This year, you can do both.
  • Exhibit Nights: include dinner (not just appetizers), drinks, the awards announcements, and the silent auction.
  • Food, Glorious food: Symposium registration includes almost all your meals: 4 lunches plus 3 dinners (breakfast is included at the host hotel.) You’ll be fed all day, every day, with the exception of Wed evening dinner.
  • Thursday is Fieldtrip Day: Hop aboard for a tour of historic Vineland glassblowing sites curated by expert local guides while enroute to your choice of two destinations: company tours OR WheatonArts Village.  Both tours will meet again over dinner at WheatonArts. Everyone is encouraged to participate as the SCC glass center will be closed Thursday.
  • Tour Chemglass Life Sciences and Precision Electronic Glass: get a once-in-a-lifetime behind the scenes look at two of Vinelands biggest scientific glass companies including live demonstrations OR
  • Visit WheatonArts Village: Spend some time with soda lime in the historic brick furnace hot shop and have a blast looking at world class glass in the Museum of American Glass or shop at WheatonArts General Store, Arthur Gorham Paperweight Shop, or The Gallery of Fine Craft. – Don’t forget to save a few dollars for the ASGS Annual Art Auction which always has great gifts to bring home.
  • WheatonArts After Dark: Close out your symposium with a bang… of the gavel. Celebrate a great week of glass while dining and bidding on amazing items at the Art Auction. This year the proceeds go to the ASGS SGT scholarship fund to help cover tuition costs for scientific glass students at SCC.

The Glass Education Center at Salem Community College provides unique opportunities which have allowed us to offer seminars, workshops, and demos that would be impossible to provide any where else.

You don’t want to miss the chance to see a 42 bench scientific lampworking shop, plus a giant hot shop with 2 day tanks and three glory holes, plus an extensive cold working facility which includes a laser cutter, water jet, sand blaster, and extensive grinding/polishing equipment.

We sincerely encourage you to make this the year you attend the ASGS symposium
